I recently asked lily grower Tom Gratrix about the concoction that assists with the lily beetle problem. I got this reply:
I do not use this concoction personally so I can not answer most of your questions. It is for the lily beetle that attacks lilium and it does not kill them. We hand pick the beetles, eggs and larvae starting in early spring and have good results by doing so.
So it certainly looks like Sue’s fellow gardeners are on the same path as Tom! No sure fixes except time and yucky fingers will do the job well. Tom has staff, so that sounds like a nice solution to me!
