Our September

September has always been an exciting,  hugely busy and expensive month for our family. It is back-to-school time and that has always meant tuition payments, new school uniforms and textbooks at our house. For my husband it has meant long hours of class preparation.

These days we have happy celebrations too. Our grandson Leo turned 2 on the 2nd of the month.

Our daughter and her husband celebrated their 6th anniversary on the 3rd with a precious new 2 week old son.

Our son has just arrived from Boston for a visit and a canoe trip with my husband before classes begin next week.

And Fall gardening is my favourite activity. It is a lovely time to plant and tidy up. I think my garden has unexpectedly turned out to be centered around Fall plants and colours. And there are all those yummy fresh tomatoes to deal with!

But this too is the month of reflection over the loss of our sweet grandson in 2008. Yesterday’s weather cooperated for shots of his memorial garden. It truly has become a lush Fall garden!

And that is what September is usually about: loads of activity, family, the garden and some melancholy thrown into the mix.

  1. Your fall gardens are a treat Marie! What is that agastache in the first photo? gorgeous. The babies are growin up so fast.

  2. Deanne, it is just an annual agastache from the garden center that reached perfection recently. I bought 2-3 different ones and unfortunately don’t know the name. Proof that I should mix more annuals in my gardens.

The memorial garden has filled out nicely and Leo has grown so much as well. I think of your sweet little grandson with every full moon.
