Yet Another Birthday, Warm Friendships and a Plant Sale
So it has been a very full week, beyond the usual niceties involved in a birthday celebration – I guess because this was a biggie of a birthday. There were many cakes, many pies, restaurant meals and friends visiting. In other words, calories galore.
There were phone calls from far and wide that came in for days. There was the choir of family and grandkids singing Happy Birthday – and more! There was the call from my lifetime friend from Tobago (now in New Jersey) whose voice alone comforts me.
There was the friend who brought a truck load of compost. There was lunch and dinner prepared by another friend who also came bearing gifts. There was an expedition to buy a few wine glasses and some fancy soap. There was the batik card written by gardening friends who helped cut back plants by our barn. A surprise book from Amazon, then a rain chain I’d spotted at a store that DH gave me as a surprise. Then another dinner at the restaurant of my choice…and on it went.
And then on the weekend there was the trip to a very unusual garden spot where a plant sale took place. So with a senior’s discount, sale prices and a chunk off the entry fee, how could I refuse a few new plants? Still no idea where they will go.
And so it seems that the celebration continues on & on in many ways! Do I mind? Nope! November is threatening to be difficult in many ways. These very pleasant reminders of great friendships had better sustain me!
PS: The new little Kousa Dogwood has now been planted between lilacs by the barn. I hope it likes its new home! Two more plants to go and then it’s back to normal life once more. 🙂
