A Special Tiny Shop

We have a wee shop in our small town which I visit as often as possible!Dec8-2012YarnBird

Holly is the pet “guard dog” and at this time of year she sports her bright red hand knit coat. Dec8-2012YarnBird5

This is my friend Marlene’s knitting shop, known as The Yarn Bird. It is a miraculous place because it seems bigger on the inside than from the outside!

Yarns are beautifully displayed in gorgeous colours and varied textures.Dec8-2012YarnBird3

Marlene often travels to Craft Fairs and seeks out very special items for her shop. Local talent also creates items which are sold here, such as children’s pajamas, bunting bags, baby outfits, festive hats, little girl dresses, toddler sweaters, baby socks, and stuffed knit animal toys.Dec8-2012YarnBird2

Materials to knit holiday scarves and fingerless mitts are available as well.Dec8-2012YarnBird7

This fall some wonderful adult sized socks were for sale too.. I love my funky new socks and they are cozy and warm!Dec7-2012Socks

Here you can buy quality needles, patterns and buttons. Oh how I love buttons!Dec7-2012buttons

You get all kinds of help with selection of yarns and with techniques for knitting. If you have a problem with a pattern, you’ll get great advice too. Marlene knits gorgeous goods and sells her own creations as well. She seems to knit morning and afternoon. Her son claims she knits in her sleep as well!

Today I need new circular needles to complete a project. I’ll be there as soon as Marlene opens her door!

Love those socks. And, as I have a sock fetish, I’d be a happy man if I lived near a shop selling socks that are interesting and artistic; they’re hard to find.
