Indy’s Buddy

Indy is my daughter’s super companion. She was adopted years ago when her beautiful picture appeared on the Humane Society’s web page.

Here is Indy this week:April22-2013Indy1

It seems that the pound had picked up this dog and delivered her to our local Vet’s home for fostering. She was so wonderful that this vet had her live inside her home with her own dogs. She was young and eager to please, always came when called. When she had gained weight and strength, it was time for her to find her a forever home. There were 3-4 people on a waiting list to adopt her and our daughter was last on the list. The others did not show up to claim her, and so Indy became a member of her family while she was in grad school. Indy did well with her cats as well. She was a good traveler in a car. Our daughter taught her to be a good canoe and camping dog too.

After marriage, there were children. Indy was very attentive and  protective of the children. She tolerated all sorts of toddler abuse… Once some people abducted her as she waited on the porch for the car to return. It took 3 days of detective work to find her again. There were many tears of joy when she returned!

And now Indy is older. Not as much active play these days, though she still enjoys walks.  And so…a new puppy is being adopted this weekend to be her buddy! The puppy is 9 months old. Our daughter took Indy, her 4 year old daughter and the baby too… to check out the new family member to be sure the fit was good. And it will be!

April24-2013DogPupBThis dog has one brown eye and one blue! It gives plenty of kisses and is good about cats in its present home. He is not yet trained, but he is smart and does not attempt to run away. He will be getting a new name soon. More happy details to come!

PS: Puppy is now named Pepper! So much better than Tank!

Lovely dog and oh so adorable pup! 🙂

Such happy news! I wouldn’t be surprised if the new pup adds a couple of years to Indy’s life! We had an old dog who got much more exercise and stimulation when we got a pup that she lived far longer than we (or the vet) thought possible.

Indy has such a beautiful face! Oh my goodness. That pup is also adorable and I’m sure Indy will love having a companion. Scout is so used to another dog in the house that I know she’s missing that.

Thanks so much for joining in this week.

Congrats to your daughter and family on the new addition. With Nick turning 13 in a couple of weeks, I’m wrestling with the decision to add another canine family member. For a variety of reasons it probably won’t happen but I still think about it.
