Leo spent Saturday on a long hike with his family and then came to see us for an overnight.
His visit began with a walk to the post office and a cup of hot chocolate with his grandfather, Daddy Ric. He said it had marshmallows and a “mountain” of whipped cream on top.
When they came home, dinner had been pretty much prepared, but they fed the dog first. Leo helped me make some applesauce for later. We then ate pasta together, but first he enjoys singing
Earth who gives to us this food,
Sun who makes it ripe and good,
Dear Earth, dear Sun, by you we live
Our loving thanks to you we give.
Daddy Ric played checkers with him for a long while…using Leo’s version of the rules. Then he wanted to make a new butterfly puzzle. We worked on that for a long time together. It was time to celebrate that coming together, so the men folk made popcorn for our treat.
And then it was time for a story, a Cajun version of Little Red Riding Hood featuring Claude the Alligator and Petite Rouge Riding Hood, a duck! All worked out well and Leo wasn’t too scared. So he decided to spend the night sleeping in the “club house” with a toy platypus and a toy gorilla. It was 9PM and sleep came quickly.
But so did morning. By 6:30 he was up and eager to play advent calendar games on my computer. We enjoyed a few games…and I experimented with his left handedness vs right handedness…and came to no firm conclusions. And then, after cinnamon toast and warm applesauce, it was time to head home again.
